Video Smuggled By Protester Is First Known Footage Of Supreme Court In Action

A presumed member of advocacy group 99rise filmed a protester disturbing a hearing with a hidden camera as he declared "money is not speech."

A protester filmed what is possibly the first public footage of a Supreme Court hearing for the case McCutcheon v. FEC, a case in which the Court will decide whether there should be a limit on the amount an individual can donate to a political campaign.

The case is also referred to as Citizens United pt. 2, after the 2012 case in which the Supreme Court struck down limits on the amount a corporation could contribute in federal elections.

It is illegal for anyone, including news media, to film during a Supreme Court hearing.

At one point in the video, a person named Kyle from the organization 99rise stands and addresses the court, saying "I rise on behalf of the vast majority of the American people who believe money is not speech, corporations are not people."

He continued: "And our democracy should not for be sale to the highest bidder. Overturn Citizens United. Keep the cap on McCutcheon. The people demand democracy." It then appears that he was apprehended by security.

The protester has been charged with violating Federal law.
