Based on the real life stories of aircraft designer Jiro Horikokshi...

... and famous poet, Tatsuo Hori, the film takes place in 1920s Japan during a period of wartime, the Great Kanto Earthquake, and the Great Depression.

As we've come to expect from Hayao Miyazaki the animation is hauntingly beautiful in its delicacy and attention to detail.

The Wind Rises debuted in Japan in July and has since earned $57 million. As of yet, there is no US distributor.
