MUSIC BUZZ – Is it too soon to bestow upon Katy Perry’s chart-topping smash the desirable title of “song of the summer?” Sorry, Rihanna, three years in a row was an extraordinary feat, but it looks like 2008 introduced a new radio sweetheart to dominate beachside retreats. Although the song itself is the equivalent of an obnoxious drunk girl starved for attention, it’s hard to deny its catchy rock swagger. (Although if Katy reminds you of Alanis or Avril in their prime, it’s probably because she records with Glen Ballard and The Matrix, the producers behind those artists’ respective smashes.)

MUSIC BUZZ – New York musician Thomas Bartlett covers the soundtrack to Footloose (yes, Kenny Loggins, Kevin Bacon, dance laws, etc.) in a moving tribute to his friend’s half-sister, who passed away as a teenager. The unusual circumstances naturally make for an unusual - albeit stunning - record. Problem is, the mp3’s are ridiculously hard to find now that Doveman received a cease-and-desist letter after initially posting the album on his site for free. If you know where to find the tracks, let me know and I’ll post it. (Update: GOT IT!)

MUSIC BUZZ – Radiohead’s latest music video was filmed without any cameras, using only lasers. Employing technology I’ve read about three times now but still don’t understand, the director captured all these images using lasers, which were somehow turned into data points. Radiohead and Goolge have teamed up to release some of the visualization data, which fans can use to remix. Not sure what it all means, but the video is cool.
