A five-alarm fire broke out at 1 a.m. on Chestnut Avenue in Staten Island. The New York City Fire Department have said at least 24 people have been injured – 14 of the injured being firefighters.
The fire has apparently consumed two homes, and the Staten Island Advance say there were reports of a man "screaming from a window" who tossed two small children down to a couple below" to escape the fire, and that the man was also later saved.
The children were caught by Anthony DiSimone, who says the children were "shaken up" but OK.
FDNY say the injuries aren't life threatening, and that 200 firefighters are on the scene.
No details have been released about how the fire started.
