I don’t like this move, because it runs counter to Obama’s previous stance, but I can see the rationale behind it, getting people who don’t agree with Obama’s stances. Suddenly the outsider, who doesn’t like the ‘way things are goiing in Washington DC’, brings in a guy who’s been there for 36 years, a veritable poster child for the establishment and behind closed doors politicking. Furthermore, Biden voted for the war in Iraq, one of Obama’s big selling points was that he was one of the few who voted against the war from the beginning. Of course, when you think it through, none of this is going to alienate previous Obama supporters enough to make them vote for McCain, but it does make Obama look weaker and takes some of the shine off. As a result, maybe instead of voting for Obama, past supporters just don’t turn out to vote.
