This Scene In "Mean Girls" Has Been Haunting Me For So Long

What's going on here.

I'm a simple man. I put my shirts on one shirt at a time. I haven't worn a baseball cap in seven years. My favorite color is confidential.

But I can't for the life of me figure out how this scene in Mean Girls was filmed.

It's the scene where the guy gets hit in the face with a stereo by Gretchen Weiners. It has become the bane of my existence. My white whale. My blue whale. My orca whale. My sperm whale. My beluga whale. Please watch:

Check it out in slow motion. This, at least to my very well-trained and expert eye, is a real stereo. A full-sized stereo hits this man in the face.

Does this look fake to you? This ain't your daddy's styrofoam stereo. This looks, at least to my very well trained and expert eye, like a real stereo. How did they film this?

Take another look. Gaze upon it. Look at that shine. That gleam. You don't get that, at least according to my very well trained and expert eye, kind of shine on a fake stereo.

Look at the way he gazes upon the stereo. The confusion. The helplessness. He's like a newborn babe, taking in all of Earth's overwhelming beauty.

He's also like a dude that's about to get clocked in the dome with a stereo.

But, seriously, how did they film this? How many takes did it take? How many stereos did they break? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

The people need — nay — DESERVE to know.

UPDATE:

Thanks to the blessing that is a comments section, we may just finally know how this scene was filmed. Check it out:

And if you're like me and knee-jerk react to every single thing you're told with "PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN" look no further:
