The 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award Finalists Have Been Announced

The National Book Critics Circle has nominated its 30 finalists for the best books of 2013. But first, a question.

What is The National Book Critics Circle?

Wait, what was the Algonquin Round Table?

OK. So who makes up the National Book Critics Circle now?

The NBCC board is made up of book review editors and book reviewers, for the most part, who serve rotating three-year terms. You can see exactly who's calling the shots here. Basically think of your most knowledgeable book-loving friend, and then imagine a whole crew of folks just like them, but probably with more degrees.

All right, super-smart book people with a history dating back to the early 1900s. Can we get to the recommendations already?

    Without a doubt.
