1 Pussy Riot Member Freed, 2 Remain Jailed

Yekaterina Samutsevich was freed because she didn't take part in the controversial cathedral performance that first landed the three women in jail.

Pussy Riot member Yekaterina Samutsevich has been released from jail by a Moscow appeals court. It's been nearly two months since she and two other Pussy Riot members were sentenced to two years in prison for hooliganism.

Samutsevich was freed because she didn't perform in the anti-Putin cathedral protest that the women were arrested for in March, a judge said. (Samutsevich had been caught by cathedral guards before it could begin.)

Samutsevich's imprisonment doesn't appear to be completely over, though. CBS News reports that the court may "rehabilitate" Samutsevich outside of jail.

Pussy Riot's lawyers will continue to appeal the sentencing of the other two members, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina.
