...to writer and director Rian Johnson dedicating the night to Fisher before the film began, it was an emotional ride. "I want to dedicate tonight to Carrie," Johnson told the crowd. "I know she’s up there right now flipping me the bird, saying, ‘Dammit, Rian, how dare you bring the mood down and make this night a solemn tribute?’ So let’s all have a blast together, for Carrie."
Since Fisher's death in 2016 at age 60, the franchise has paid tribute to the actor's memory. But The Last Jedi, the final Star Wars film Fisher appeared in before her death, honors her in a huge way.
