A Brand-New Impact Crater Just Appeared On Mars

    Booooooooom.

Nasa have released this image of a fresh impact crater on the surface of Mars, taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on their Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter late last year.

Before and after photographs show that the crater was made sometime between July 2010 and May 2012.

Scientists say the blast would have thrown debris up to 15km away from the impact site. Other images taken by the same camera show that craters bigger than 4m wide appear on Mars at a rate of about 200 per year.
