Last time we posted about Obie he was in pretty rough shape. Obie had just been rescued from an elderly owner who couldn't take proper care of him. He was morbidly obese.
A Facebook page was started chronicling his weight lost. This message was posted early on:
"He is a 5 year old standard dachshund. He is on a special diet to lose the weight and get back to being a happy dog. [His owners] think that he should weigh about 30 to 40 pounds. [They] immediately took him to the vet for blood work and it miraculously came back normal. [They] plan to do swim therapy with him and treadmill work once he starts to lose a little. He will need a dental and may eventually need to have excess skin surgically removed."

Obie received encouraging messages from dogs around the world. It was adorable and surely helped.
After months of hard work, Obie finally lost enough weight to get surgery!
This past week Obie went in for surgery to remove excess skin.
