Greta Gerwig Knows The Real Reason Why The "HIMYM" Spinoff Flopped

    Ouch.

Remember the iconic-yet-sometimes-annoying masterpiece that was How I Met Your Mother? It ran for nine seasons from 2005–2014 on CBS.

And due to the success of the show, CBS thought it would be a great idea to continue the show's legacy with a spinoff series called How I Met Your Dad, starring Greta Gerwig.

If this is coming as a shock to you, it's probably because the series didn't make it past the pilot episode in 2014. And during a recent interview with Stephen Colbert on the Late Show, Greta revealed why the show didn't work.

"There was a show called How I Met Your Mother. It was a great show. I loved it. Everyone loves it," said Greta, who wrote and directed the new coming-of-age film Lady Bird.

"They were going to make another one called How I Met Your Dad, starring me."

"We shot the pilot and it was so much fun! I loved working on it. And then they take the pilot to Las Vegas to test it (with a focus group)."

"The audience, they're given knobs. They turn the knob to the right if they like it and to the left if they don't."

"And apparently, they turned the knob to the left every time I came on.

And even though that was pretty sad to hear, the 34-year-old California native has since learned to laugh about it.
