“X-Men" Director Bryan Singer Accused Of Sexually Abusing A Teenage Boy

The director’s representative has called the lawsuit "absurd and defamatory."

Hollywood director Bryan Singer has been accused of drugging and sexually abusing a teenage boy in the late 1990s.

A lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court in Hawaii on Wednesday claims the 48-year-old used his influence within the film business, as well as drugs and alcohol, to force oral and anal sex on the boy.

The plaintiff, Michael Egan, is seeking unspecified damages and a jury trial following the alleged abuses during house parties in Hawaii and California.

The lawsuit has been filed just weeks before the release of Singer’s latest film, X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The complaint alleges that Singer "manipulated his power, wealth, and position in the entertainment industry to sexually abuse and exploit the underage plaintiff through the use of drugs, alcohol, threats and inducements which resulted in [the] plaintiff suffering catastrophic psychological and emotional injuries."

The director's attorney, Marty Singer, told the The Hollywood Reporter that the claims are "completely without merit."

"We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit," Singer said. "It is obvious that this case was filed in an attempt to get publicity at the time when Bryan' s new movie is about to open in a few weeks."

The alleged abuse mentioned in the lawsuit apparently happened in 1998 and 1999 when the plaintiff was 17.

Egan accuses former entertainment business executive Marc Collins-Rector, a registered sex offender, of initiating the abuse by arranging for Singer to meet Egan.

"The parties were typically sordid and featured sexual contact between adult males and the many teenage boys who were present for the parties," according to claims in the lawsuit.

Egan alleges that Singer "promised acting roles to [the] plaintiff in an X-Men movie, in commercials, and in other of his projects, and professed that he would arrange for [the] plaintiff to audition for roles and projects in others' productions."

Egan was allegedly paid by Collins-Rector’s company while he was a teenager and flown to "attractive locations."

The suit alleges Singer and other men told the teen they “controlled Hollywood and would destroy his hopes and dreams of an acting career if he did not keep them happy."

Egan is expected to hold a press conference in Los Angeles on Thursday.
