update: Michael has released a statement to clear up the confusion:
"I am very proud of my soccer career and all that I have achieved. I was honoured to be a part of the Australian team for the Sydney Olympics and during my time as a professional soccer player, I was lucky enough to play overseas. I commenced my career playing for the young Socceroos. Apologies for any confusion caused in regards to suggesting I played for the Socceroos. My main goal now is to find love on The Bachelorette".
Meet Michael, one of the contestants on Australia's The Bachelorette.
He's handsome, loves to shower (in his shorts?), and is apparently really really good at football.
Just ask him.
Except, that's not quite true.
In his introduction, 34-year-old Michael mentions playing for the Socceroos and representing Australia at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games as a highlight of his life.
Michael Turnbull represented Australia a handful of times in youth teams, not the Socceroos. He was also in the Australian squad for the 2000 Olympics, but never actually made it into the pitch.
Turnbull has played a handful of games in Australia's premier soccer competition, The A League. He played six games for the New Zealand Knights in the 06/07 season, and was last year picked up by the Melbourne Victory as an injury replacement player, but again, never made it on to the pitch.
