10 Things I Loved About "Final Fantasy VII Remake" And 5 Things I Didn't

Don't bother me, I'm listening to Aerith's theme on repeat.

The game that some fans have been waiting for since, like, 1996 — the remake of Final Fantasy VII — is finally arriving in the US on April 10.

I was able to play an advance review copy of the game provided by Square Enix, and as I went through this update of a classic, I found a lot of things to love, but also some things to...not love.

    1. LOVED: Faithfulness to the original game.

    2. DIDN'T LOVE: The linear nature of the game.

    3. LOVED: New depth of character, especially for Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie.

    4. DIDN'T LOVE: A love...quadrangle?

    5. LOVED: The Midgar setting.

    6. LOVED: The "best of" previous game mechanics, rolled into one.

    7. LOVED: The visuals. THE VISUALS!!

    8. DIDN'T LOVE: Occasional issues with in-game lag.

    9. LOVED: The music!

    10. LOVED: Each character's unique approach to battles.

    11. DIDN'T LOVE: The finicky ATB system.

    12. LOVED: New Materia!

    13. LOVED: New additions to the story.

    14. DIDN'T LOVE: Filler.

    15. LOVED: The overall nostalgia.

    FINAL (FANTASY) THOUGHTS:

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available in the US on April 10 — $59.99 for the standard edition and $79.99 for the deluxe edition.

Square Enix provided a copy of the game for review purposes, but BuzzFeed was not obligated to provide any coverage, positive or otherwise.
