The movie truly is a giant love letter to classic Disney films.

As you probably already know (or else why would you have clicked onto this post!), the long-anticipated sequel to Enchanted, Disenchanted, premiered last week on Disney+.

And to celebrate, D23's Twitter account (the official Disney fan club) had a watch party of the original movie with the film's director, Kevin Lima — seen below with Amy Adams on set during the filming of Enchanted.

During the watch party, Kevin — who also directed another iconic Disney movie, A Goofy Movie — revealed a ton of fun facts, homages, and Easter eggs about Enchanted.

Below are some of my favorite tidbits I learned about Enchanted.

    1. The castle interior seen in the beginning of the film is modeled after the interiors of the castle in Sleeping Beauty:

The classic Disney castle is Sleeping Beauty’s castle, so we based the interiors on art from SLEEPING BEAUTY. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    2. Julie Andrews, who of course narrates the film, and Kevin had worked together before. He was the director of Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime — in which she played Nanny:

I had made 2 ELOSIE TV movies with Julie Andrews and could think of no better person to immediately set the tone —this is a love letter to classic Disney animation. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    3. If Giselle's cottage looked like it was straight out of a classic Disney fairy tale movie, it's because it's a mash-up of the Dwarfs' cottage from Snow White and the Three Good Fairies' cottage from Sleeping Beauty:

Giselle’s cottage is a mash up of the dwarfs' cottage from SNOW WHITE and the fairies' cottage from SLEEPING BEAUTY. Notice that everything is round, to contrast with New York City. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    4. The scene where Giselle kisses the turtle is an homage to two scenes from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs:

Some might think that this Easter egg is a bit obscure…Giselle’s forest friends stack up like the dwarfs in SNOW WHITE and she kisses the turtle gently on the top of his bald head, like Snow White kissing Dopey. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    5. The frog that jumps through the window of Giselle's cottage was actually a nod to the upcoming The Princess and the Frog movie, which premiered two years after Enchanted was released:

Although THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG hadn’t been released yet, I knew that it was in production, so I added this subtle homage to the upcoming film. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    6. Similarly, later in the film, Kevin put in a nod to Tangled:

I also knew that Disney Feature Animation was developing a film that at the time was titled RAPUNZEL and became TANGLED. The girl playing our Rapunzel is my daughter. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    7. The scene where Prince Edward dances with Nathaniel while singing "True Love's Kiss" is a direct reference to the scene in Sleeping Beauty where Prince Phillip tells his father that he is going to marry the "maiden" he met in the forest:

My direction was: Pay homage to Prince Philip dancing with his father, King Hubert when he returns from meeting the girl he’s going to marry. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    8. Queen Narissa's dungeon is designed to look like the Evil's Queen's dungeon from Snow White:

Some have said that Narissa’s lair was designed to look like Ursula’s underwater cavern in THE LITTLE MERMAID, and I can see how one might think that, but it was really designed to look like the Evil Queen’s dungeon/laboratory in SNOW WHITE. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    9. While Giselle's wedding carriage is designed to look like Cinderella's wedding carriage:

Giselle's wedding carriage is an homage to Cinderella’s wedding carriage at the end of CINDERELLA. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    10. The scene where Giselle is upside down and about to open the manhole cover is an homage to the scene where Alice is upside down after falling down the rabbit hole in Alice In Wonderland:

I wanted to literally turn Giselle completely upside-down when she arrived in the “real’ world. Like Alice her life is about to get “curiouser and curiouser.” —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    11. The movie's characters have last names that reference other Disney characters both animated and live-action movies:

All of the characters that have last names are named after Disney characters. I’m not sure if we ever say or see Robert’s last name, but being our prince, he’s named after the only prince with a proper name, Prince Philip —thus, Robert Philip. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    12. Except for the reporter Prince Edward sees on TV. That character was named after Mary Costa, who voiced Princess Aurora; Ilene Woods, who voiced Cinderella; and Adriana Caselotti, who voiced Snow White:

The Reporter’s name is Mary Ilene Casselotti after the 3 actresses that played Aurora, Cinderella and Snow White. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    13. The name of the law firm where Robert works is named after Frank Churchill, Paul Smith, and Leigh Harline who wrote the songs and score for Snow White:

We named the law firm Robert’s works at, Churchill, Haline & Smith after the song writers of SNOW WHITE. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    14. The hotel Prince Edward and Nathaniel check-in to is named after the Grand Duke from Cinderella:

The Grand Duke Hotel is named after the Grand Duke from CINDERELLA. Like this one, sometimes the names just popped into my head, and at other times, I’d have to do research and make lists of possibilities. —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted

    Disney/ Twitter: @DisneyD23

    15. And lastly, the soap opera Prince Edward watches in the hotel not only features Paige O'Hara, who voiced Belle, but also features the Beauty and the Beast score in soap opera-style music:

Edward watches the “magic mirror” and there’s Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Listen to the score and it’s a dramatic parody of “Beauty and the Beast.” —@GoofyMovieDir #D23Enchanted
